New Home Garden Center Comes to Leinkauf!

Last week The Weavil Company announced their sale of the old KMB Recycle Center lot at the corner of Stocking Street and Government.

Get ready, Leinkauf, to welcome a new home Garden Center to the neighborhood!

The new owner, from the rich horticultural traditions of our local nursery industry, has been cultivating plants in Semmes for decades at their namesake Stokley Nursery. Leinkauf supports "Buy Local!" and in this case, the producers, the distributors, and the retailers are home-grown plantsmen!

Even more good news, owner Lyle Stokley and son Blane have already reached out to Leinkauf to promise a beautiful development that will elevate our neighborhood and offer beauty for our homes and gardens, and have expressed an interest in being a part of our community through gardening activities and support for our district and others. Stokley is known for their often exemplified community support, notably in their ongoing willingness to work at the Mobile Botanical Gardens in ways that help the Gardens stretch a sometimes tight budget to preserve Mobile's rich horticultural heritage there.

As though that is not enough good news, their architect is Steve Stone of dakinstreet architects, whom you may know converted an ugly old tire center into the exciting and dramatic Serda Brewery on Government Street.

Though the projected opening is early next spring, the Stokley's hope to bring pop-up sales to us this fall at their location so we can all become acquainted. Remember, fall IS the best time to plant green and flowering shrubs as well as summer perennials, so begin to make your plans NOW and save your landscaping budget for their fall events!

I have a feeling it's going to get more and more difficult to select just one "Outstanding Yard" at a time in Leinkauf!
