Suzanne Schwartz, Nominations and Elections Chair, presents the 2019 Slate:
September 25, 2018
Dear Residents and Members of Leinkauf:
I am pleased to present the following slate of candidates for the upcoming election for LHDNO to be held on October 25, 2018 at First Christian Church:
For President: Tim Maness – Tim moved to Mobile in 2004 and has been a resident of Leinkauf since 2008, with a 2-year break. He lives on Michigan Avenue with his husband Josh McKenzie and their three dogs. Tim sits on Mobile Historic Development Commission as a representative of Leinkauf where he serves as the Public Relations chair for executive board and currently is chair for the Spanish Plaza revitalization committee. Tim was Vice President of LHDNO for 3 years during the time that the Historic District was brought back to life. Tim presently serves as Area 8 representative for LHDNO and is one of the founding members of The Leinkauf Porch Society.
For Vice President: Harold Bolton - Harold was an educator in the Mobile County Public Schools for 41-years, including being an assistant principal at LeFlore Magnet School and Vigor High School. He has been married to the love of his life, Brenda, since 1977. Harold also helped develop and maintain the computer software necessary to collect student demographic information, grades, attendance, transcript info, etc, for MCPSS. He retired in 2011, to become a Master Gardener.
For Secretary: Carol Adams-Davis - Carol grew up in the Leinkauf Neighborhood District and moved back to Mobile in 2006. She has over 40 years experience as owner and manager of both small and large businesses. She holds degrees in Business Administration, Visual Design, Fine Arts, Data Communications, and Horticulture. Carol actively volunteers for a variety of national, state, and local organizations.
For Treasurer: Teresa Tessner - Teresa moved to Mobile from St Louis, MO just over 2 years ago. In St Louis she lived in an historic district in the heart of the city and served on that neighborhood's Housing Corporation Board, which served a somewhat similar role as the Architectural Review Board does here. She's lived in and also rehabbed a number of historic homes. She also was a real estate agent specializing in urban historic homes, before retiring. Her experience with revitalizing urban historic neighborhoods has shown her the importance of a strong, engaged neighborhood organization.
For Area 1 Representative - Joe L. Brown - Joe is a retired educator from Mobile County Public School System. During his teaching career, he taught Mechanical Drawing, Shop and was the Career Tech Job Coordinator at M.T. Blount when he retired June 2011. He received his Bachelor and Master's degrees from Alabama A. & M. University. He is married to Betty Brown and they have two daughters. He is a member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church and an active member of the Mobile Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi.
For Area 3 Representative: Jacob Thomas - Jacob is an Auburn University alumnus and moved to Mobile two years ago from Birmingham. Before taking his current Sales Manager position, he worked for ten years remodeling houses. He has a deep appreciation and admiration for the historic richness and charm of Midtown Mobile. He and his fiancée Julie are excited and proud to now call Mobile home.
For Area 5 Representative: Linda Tomlinson - Linda grew up in a small town in western KY and moved to Nashville, TN, to attend Peabody College where she majored in history. She moved with husband Ken to northern California in 1980 where they lived for 24 years. During that time she worked as an elementary school librarian. They moved to Baton Rouge in 2004 just in time to experience Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. They returned to Nashville for a while, before relocating to Mobile last fall to be close to the Gulf. Hobbies include reading, gardening and traveling. Linda and Ken have 4 children who live all around the world but they're making Mobile their home base for a while and would like to be involved in the community.
For Area 7 Representative: Jean Pitts - Jean works for the Inspection Services department of the Mobile County Health Department. She has been an active member of First Christian church for 5 years, and is studying Computer Technical Support. She has lived on Stocking Street for approximately 7 years, and has been an active participant with the Leinkauf Neighborhood Organization since May 2015. I love the history and beauty of the Leinkauf neighborhood, and hope that my time on the board will help make Leinkauf a better place.
For Area 9 Representative: Joseph Mahoney - Joe has been a homeowner and resident of Leinkauf for over 40 years. He resides on Michigan Avenue with his wife, Diane. Joe has actively participated in LHDNO activities for several years working with Harold Bolton on the very successful Historic Leinkauf Sign fundraiser. Joe was a Charter member of the original Leinkauf Historic District incorporation and the incorporator for the present 501(c)(3) status for the District.
As a reminder, you must be a member of LHDNO to vote. You can join any time right up to the time the meeting begins at 7:00 pm on the 25th. Officers are elected at large but only resident members residing in each designated area may vote for their Area Representative. This year we are electing Representatives for Area 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9.
On October 25th, the doors will open at 6:00 PM for voter check-in and new member registration. If you are not currently a member but wish to vote in the election, you can join at that time and will be included in the voting for the Officers, at large, and/or the Area Representative for the Area in which you reside.
The revision of the By-laws allows absentee ballots to be cast. If you wish to vote by absentee ballot, contact Suzanne Schwartz at email@example.com, and she will see that you are provided with the appropriate ballot and directions on how to cast your ballot.
This is the first year that we have elected our Area Representatives specifically from each Area rather than at large, as in the past. I am so excited that we have a candidate for each 2019 off-numbered Area as well as for 4 At-Large officers on the Executive this year. I believe this demonstrates that there's growing excitement throughout the District. We should all be very proud of our District.
